Do you get what you pay for when buying audiophile grade components ?

Obviously there is a correlation between price and quality. The cheap mass market  stereo equipment does not give sound quality that will satisfy   the critical audiophile  Then there  are fine components on the market that are priced beyond the reach of most of us: $ 50,000 amps, $ 75,000 turntables, and $ 120,000 speakers.
